Language Arts, Math, Bikes for Books

Language Arts – Students have a comprehension activity to complete on ReadWorks. It is usually due for Wednesday, but because there is no school on that day this week, it’ll be due on Thursday. I stressed to the students that I use these results to help me evaluate them on their report card, so they should be doing their best work. Feel free to check their progress when they log in to do their work.

Math Grade 6 – Students have to complete exercises 1 and 2 on page 237. They also have a sheet to complete in their red duotang on volume. Next week students will be doing their first foundational learnings quiz to discover their understanding of the 6 foundational learning concepts we have covered so far this year.

Bikes for Books – A notice went home with students today concerning this reading contest that began at the end of last week here at the school. Two bicycles will be awarded to each class (one for a boy and one for a girl). To enter the draw for one of the bikes, students need to read a book of no less than 80 pages. Students have to fill out a sheet upon completion of the book so I can see that they did indeed read the book. For every 80 pages read, students get to put their name on a ballot for a chance to win a bike. Please check for the notice with your child.

Just a note with regards to writing. Students began a persuasive piece of writing that will be formally marked and go towards their report grade for the term. They will have one more day to complete it and results will be shared with parents during the next set of parent/teacher conferences. This is the second piece of writing that I will be using to assist me in evaluating their progress in writing this term.
